The Mechanical Engineering Department (ME) at UC Riverside (UCR) provides graduate programs focusing on specialized mechanical engineering fields. With 30 faculty members and approximately 90 graduate students, we deliver both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, featuring diverse research opportunities.
Students can obtain the M.S. in Mechanical Engineering through one of two pathways:
Submitting a thesis (Plan I), presenting original research on a specific topic
Successfully passing a comprehensive exam
M.S. candidates must fulfill a minimum three-quarter residency requirement (one full academic year) within the University of California system, with at least two quarters completed at UCR. Each quarter of residency requires enrollment in at least 4 units of 100 or 200-level coursework. Full-time students typically register for 12 units per quarter unless granted an exception by the Graduate Advisor.
