Our department excels across multiple specialized areas within physics and astronomy, integrating this expertise into teaching and community engagement. Key research areas span cosmic origins and formation, condensed matter and biological systems at various scales, and environmental physics. With 44 faculty members and 132 graduate students, we maintain a vibrant research environment encompassing both theoretical and experimental work in Astrophysics, Biophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology, Precision Measurement Science, High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, and Surface Physics. Our researchers utilize facilities at UC Riverside as well as prominent national and international laboratories.
During UC Riverside's significant growth period, we've strategically developed into a premier physics department while preserving our commitment to supportive mentorship. The graduate program receives substantial institutional support, enabling us to provide attractive financial packages. Every incoming graduate student receives full funding through fellowships and teaching assistantships.
Situated 50 miles east of Los Angeles in Southern California, Riverside (population 325,000) offers proximity to diverse landscapes.
