The UCR Psychology Department offers undergraduate students diverse learning experiences through coursework, research opportunities, and practical internships. A strong emphasis is placed on scientific research, with most courses covering both theoretical frameworks and investigative methods for exploring key psychological issues. Students can engage in research across the department's numerous laboratories, studying areas such as cognition and perception, neuroscience, lifespan development, personality studies, linguistic processes, social dynamics, and wellness. Undergraduates may choose between a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in psychology, along with interdisciplinary options in Law & Society and Neuroscience. While the B.S. program shares foundational elements with the B.A., it places stronger emphasis on research techniques, theoretical understanding, and practical training within the department's research facilities.
The B.S. curriculum, carefully crafted by Psychology faculty, prepares students for competitive graduate programs with its research-focused approach. This track provides extensive laboratory coursework and direct research involvement, giving students valuable hands-on experience in psychological investigation.
