The UCR Psychology Department offers undergraduate students diverse learning experiences through coursework, hands-on research, and practical internships. A strong emphasis is placed on scientific inquiry, with most courses blending theoretical frameworks with research methodologies to explore key psychological issues. Students can engage in research across the department's numerous labs, covering topics like cognition and perception, neuroscience, lifespan development, personality studies, linguistic processes, social dynamics, and wellness. Undergraduates may earn either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in psychology, along with interdisciplinary options in Law & Society and Neuroscience.
The psychology B.S. program mirrors the B.A. curriculum but places stronger emphasis on research techniques, theoretical foundations, and practical training within departmental laboratories.
Career pathways: Both degrees provide excellent preparation for psychology graduate programs. Alumni pursue diverse careers in human resources, public service, business management, corrections, mental health services, or as trainees in various professional fields. Many continue to advanced studies in law, medicine, or social work. The interdisciplinary Psychology & Law B.A. combines psychological principles with liberal arts perspectives on legal systems and institutions, offering students a comprehensive, psychology-focused examination of law and society.
