History majors are required to collaborate with department faculty and staff to create a Major Pathway Plan. This plan must receive approval within two quarters of achieving upper-division status. Reach out to your Academic Advisor for guidance.
To graduate with distinction in the B.A. program, students typically complete HIST 195A and HIST 195B, the two-part Senior Thesis. Alternatively, majors who finish HIST 197 followed by a related HIST 199 or 199H course, or complete HNPG 195 with a thesis approved by the University Honors Program, may also qualify. A minimum 3.5 GPA in the major is required at graduation for this distinction.
Transfer credits from lower-division courses at other institutions may fulfill requirements, including up to four AP units from high school. Students can request to apply up to two relevant upper-division courses (8 units) from other UCR departments toward elective requirements. For more information, please speak with academic advisors.
