UCR's Economics department provides four specialized major options.

The Economics and Business Economics majors deliver comprehensive training in microeconomic and macroeconomic theory and their real-world applications. While both emphasize analytical rigor, the Economics major offers more elective flexibility, whereas Business Economics focuses more on practical business applications. Both prepare students for master's programs or careers as professional economists.
Two additional interdisciplinary majors are available. The Economics, Law and Society major integrates perspectives from multiple CHASS departments, providing broader legal understanding than traditional single-discipline approaches.
