The Master of Social Welfare program at UCLA Luskin is a rigorous two-year, full-time course of study. Beyond the foundational curriculum, students have opportunities to engage in specialized research courses or undertake independent projects exploring topics of personal interest. The program features two hands-on field placements with social service organizations, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in practical settings and gain essential professional experience.
As both practitioners and academics within a leading public research institution, our Social Welfare faculty dedicate themselves to delivering exceptional education. Their mission is to cultivate future leaders and practitioners in the field while expanding the theoretical and practical foundations of social work policy and intervention.
Applicants are required to have taken a minimum of seven courses in the liberal arts, including three in the socio behavioral sciences, or a combination of liberal arts and social welfare subjects as prerequisite undergraduate preparation for graduate study in the field of social work. An elementary statistics course with a grade of B or better and one course with human biology content are also required.
IELTS Academic overall band score should be at least 7.0 is the minimum required.
TOEFL score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internet-based test.
