The UCLA Classics Department ranks among the top three Humanities departments at UCLA, achieving a top-ten national ranking in the most recent National Research Council assessment. As the cornerstone of the Humanities, Classics gave rise to numerous disciplines including philology, philosophy, political systems (such as democracy), theater arts, linguistics, archaeological studies, literary criticism, and more. Our department maintains vigorous undergraduate and graduate programs, annually educating approximately 2,000 undergraduates across diverse subjects like Greco-Roman civilization, ancient texts, language studies, archaeological methods, and historical analysis. Our faculty comprises committed, accomplished scholars and educators from varied backgrounds.
