J.D. candidates must meet two key program requirements. For Requirement A, students must successfully complete two "core" courses, earning a minimum grade of B- in each. Requirement B involves taking at least four additional upper-level technology-focused courses (totaling 12+ credits) from an approved list, also maintaining a B- average or better in each. The Technology Law Specialization Committee, working with the Records Office, annually reviews and updates the qualifying courses for Requirement B (including seminars and clinics). Prospective students should carefully examine course syllabi and consult faculty advisors to choose options that align with their academic objectives.Students can request Committee approval to count relevant independent studies or alternative courses toward the specialization. The Committee may also grant exceptions for appropriate coursework completed during Foreign Legal Studies or as transfer credits.Requirement A courses don't need to precede other specialization courses, and completion isn't required before fulfilling writing requirements.Specialization students don't receive enrollment priority for any courses. Early registration for desired courses is strongly recommended to secure placement.
