Our program maintains a distinguished legacy of outstanding research and doctoral candidate development. It's ideal for scholars fascinated by biological systems and molecular structures, especially those pursuing an in-depth, mechanistic comprehension of biochemical processes. A key advantage of our program lies in its exceptional faculty and student body. According to the U.S. News and World Report's Best Global Universities ranking, UCLA's biochemistry research currently holds the 12th position worldwide, while our chemistry-related studies rank 7th globally.
Prerequisite courses include basic biology, basic chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and laboratory. Courses in computer science, engineering, genetics, molecular biology, physical chemistry, and physics are encouraged. In suitable cases, students who have course deficiencies may be admitted to graduate status, but any deficiencies must be remedied within a specified time.
