The Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC) focuses on exploring the diverse civilizations across Asia. Our curriculum examines the region's vibrant cultural traditions through language studies, literature, religious thought, archaeology, and various cultural aspects. We aim to cultivate deep respect for each culture's distinctive perspectives and accomplishments while recognizing the complex connections that unite Asia. For undergraduates, we nurture an understanding of both historical and contemporary Asian cultures. Graduate students develop into promising scholars prepared to join academia's rising leaders. Additionally, our program enhances Asia-related studies across multiple disciplines in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and professional schools, from Anthropology to Law.
