The Mathematics for Teaching program is tailored mainly for those aiming to become high school math educators. It offers a comprehensive exploration of diverse mathematical subjects, particularly those relevant for future teachers. Those considering advanced studies in mathematics or similar disciplines are advised to opt for the Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics of Computation programs.
This major serves as a capstone program. During their final year, students undertake a year-long course series that concludes with creating a model lesson, writing a paper, and compiling a portfolio. Their capstone project showcases their understanding of educational research and contemporary topics in math instruction, along with their abilities to solve problems, think quantitatively, geometrically, and algebraically, build strong arguments, evaluate others' logic, and employ tools effectively.
