This Major integrates French studies within the field of linguistics. Alongside standard major requirements, students must enroll in Linguistics 20 and complete the third level of another foreign language. The program mandates seven upper-division courses: three from the French and Francophone Studies Department and four from Linguistics.

The department provides six majors and five minors in European Languages and Transcultural Studies, including: B.A. in European Languages and Transcultural Studies (with concentrations in French/Francophone, Germanic, Italian, or Scandinavian studies) and B.A. in Nordic Studies. Minors are available in European Languages and Transcultural Studies with specializations in French/Francophone, Germanic, Italian, or Scandinavian studies.

Originally, the departments now part of ELTS concentrated on French, Italian, Germanic, and Scandinavian languages, examining their global cultural and literary influences. While maintaining interdisciplinary connections with various UCLA departments and research centers, the curriculum also enables students to investigate film, history, and philosophy.
