The Computer Science program provides a comprehensive and adaptable curriculum, enabling students to pursue advanced studies across the entire spectrum of computer science disciplines. This field focuses on creating, evaluating, and executing computer systems, along with applying computational methods to nearly every academic discipline and real-world application. Computer systems vary from miniature embedded devices to the entire internet infrastructure. Computer science research combines mathematical theory, practical experimentation, and the development of prototype systems. Our world currently confronts numerous pressing ecological crises including climate change, biodiversity loss, contamination, and population growth. Information technology solutions can support efforts to address these problems and prepare for future environmental concerns. Bren School researchers are engaged in initiatives involving scientific cooperation, ecological observation, interactive learning platforms, digital communities, and various other environmentally-focused areas. Through integrating computing and information science with these diverse fields, environmental informatics can guide societies toward more sustainable lifestyles.
