The Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry (MB&B) within the School of Biological Sciences, together with the Paul Merage School of Business, has created a Master of Science Program in Biotechnology Management (MSBTM). This initiative merges key components from our renowned Biotechnology Master's Program with several top-tier Master's of Business Administration Programs. It also leverages the university's research expertise in nanotechnology, tissue engineering, and biomedical devices. The program offers comprehensive education in both biotechnology and business management, equipping graduates with the versatility to thrive as researchers, executives, or professionals who bridge both fields.
The Biotechnology Management degree equips future scientists for leadership positions in biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, and biomedical device enterprises through a curriculum blending biotechnology, management, and biomedical engineering courses. Faculty from biological sciences, engineering, and business schools will jointly teach several classes.
Participants will gain advanced biotechnology knowledge through coursework, laboratory instruction, and two quarters of independent research in a selected faculty lab. They'll develop managerial thinking by tackling product development case studies, drafting business strategies, and analyzing current biotech industry trends. The program emphasizes building both quantitative and qualitative abilities alongside professional communication skills. Students will examine business through a biotech lens and biotechnology through a business perspective, while cultivating an innovative mindset essential for career success.
Prerequisite requirements will be the same as those for the Graduate Program in Biotechnology, which include a B.A. or B.S. in Biological Sciences or related discipline and several specific elective and laboratory courses. Admission to graduate standing in MB&B is generally accorded to those possessing a B.S. in Biological Sciences or an allied field obtained with an acceptable level of scholarship from an institution of recognized standing.
