UCI Vocal Arts boasts a distinguished legacy of artistic achievement. The Vocal Arts curriculum at UC Irvine offers rigorous training and outstanding performance experiences for both undergraduate and graduate students aspiring to professional careers in vocal music. Our undergraduates frequently gain admission to elite graduate programs at top-tier universities and conservatories, while our graduate alumni have secured positions in academic institutions and performing arts organizations.
Weekly master classes are enriched by special sessions led by renowned artists including George Shirley (2014 National Medal of Arts honoree), Lawrence Brownlee, Elizabeth Futral, Pretty Yende, Roberta Alexander, Dean Anthony Griffey, Brian Asawa, and Paula Murrihy.
The program further enhances student development through the Art Song and Artistry Series, featuring repertoire from California composers like Mark Carlson, Alan Smith, Margaret Bonds, and Jacqueline Hairston, alongside works by Samuel Barber, Aaron Copland, and Florence Price. From German Lieder recitals to Spanish-language Noche Cantando evenings and Spirituals performances, these events provide valuable artistic growth opportunities while engaging both students and community audiences.
