The University of California, Irvine provides a Master of Arts in Social Sciences specializing in Medicine, Science, and Technology Studies (MSTS). This graduate program, based in the Anthropology Department, equips students to address the profound and evolving influence of medical and technological advancements on global economies and societies. The curriculum develops competencies applicable to diverse career paths, spanning academic research, healthcare or public health fields, nonprofit organizations, and tech-related sectors.
The one-year MSTS M.A. requires students to complete three courses each quarter, totaling nine courses (36 units). The inaugural class, starting in Fall 2014, will join existing Ph.D. and potentially undergraduate students in shared coursework.
This program represents the Anthropology Department's sole terminal master's degree. While it builds foundational skills for further academic pursuits, earning the MSTS M.A. does not ensure automatic acceptance into UCI's doctoral program.
