Contemporary environmental, social, and urban challenges require researchers capable of interdisciplinary collaboration and connecting academic work to real-world solutions. The Urban and Environmental Planning and Policy (UEPP) doctoral program at UCI prepares scholars to examine societal issues concerning constructed spaces, natural systems, and governing structures. Building on the department's global reputation in environmental policy, urban development, and community design, the UEPP Ph.D. offers specialized policy training. To specialize in policy within the PPD doctoral program, students must complete core requirements plus: Create and complete a faculty-approved study plan including at least four policy courses. Typically, this involves one policy theory course (beyond the two core theory courses), one policy methods course (supplementing core methods requirements), and two courses focused on specific policy areas.
