This interdisciplinary program bridges condensed matter physics and physical chemistry, removing traditional barriers between these fields. Ideal candidates hold a B.S. in Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science and Engineering. The Chemical, Applied, and Materials Physics (ChAMP) concentration offers comprehensive interdisciplinary training in applied physical sciences, focusing on contemporary laboratory techniques and computational methods. Students can pursue either an M.S. or Ph.D., with each admitted student receiving dual mentorship from faculty in both Physics and Chemistry departments for academic and career guidance.
The M.S. and Ph.D. curricula feature a summer orientation to accommodate diverse undergraduate backgrounds, along with technical courses in fabrication, laboratory work, and computation. A specialized sequence connects core scientific principles with practical applications, complemented by training in effective scientific communication.
