Our graduate program offers two specialized pathways—the Philosophy track and the LPS track—both built on a shared foundation of coursework in philosophy's history, logic, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology. Since admissions are handled separately by each department, applicants should choose the track that best aligns with their academic interests. This section details the Philosophy track. UCI's Philosophy Department prioritizes delivering comprehensive graduate training, covering key modern philosophical disciplines alongside historical perspectives. Students with backgrounds in mathematics, natural sciences, or social sciences may particularly benefit from Logic and Philosophy of Science courses and including LPS faculty on their dissertation committees. Our collaborative dual-track structure enables students to access diverse faculty specializations.
Annually, the Philosophy Department hosts renowned philosophers from other institutions to share their research with our community. While optional, attending these colloquia greatly enriches graduate studies. Philosophy track students may also find value in LPS-sponsored colloquia. Additionally, we organize various scholarly events including specialized lectures, workshops, and global conferences (such as our recent international gathering on Hinge Epistemology).
