CBEUCI's biomolecular engineering and biotechnology research explores processes across molecular, cellular, tissue, and organism levels while innovating new bioreactor systems for biochemical applications. Our current investigations span synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, protein design, biomaterials, drug delivery systems, biophotonics, cellular analysis and imaging techniques, bioreaction dynamics, biological systems modeling, and tissue engineering approaches. By leveraging our comprehensive understanding of biomolecular interactions, we create advanced technologies for molecular synthesis, health-focused therapies, and analytical devices capable of cellular examination and multi-scale functional imaging.

Additionally, through collaboration with UCI's Stem Cell Research Center, we maintain an interdisciplinary stem cell tissue engineering program that brings together chemical engineers, molecular biologists, biophysicists, neuroscientists, medical professionals, materials scientists, and biomedical engineers. Within this initiative, CBE pioneers the creation of innovative multifunctional biomaterials, performs foundational studies on cell-biomaterial interactions in laboratory settings, and engineers diagnostic platforms to evaluate cell differentiation, investigate disease pathways, and develop tissue const
