Students can choose between pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, or a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Sciences. Note that double majoring within the department's offered programs is not permitted.
It's important for students to recognize that psychology courses are available across multiple departments and programs. Those with a general interest in psychology—covering topics like development, clinical studies, perception, learning, memory, cognitive processes, and neuroscience—should review the course listings under the B.A. in Psychology section. This major's curriculum aims to equip students with a solid grounding in general psychology. For students particularly drawn to a quantitative approach in areas such as Cognitive Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology (focusing on Sensation, Perception, Attention, and Memory), Language Science, or Computational Cognitive Science, the B.S. in Cognitive Sciences course listings within this section are recommended. Students exploring other psychology disciplines should refer to the course offerings in the School of Social Ecology and the School of Biological Sciences sections.
Student must have completed secondary school with excellent grades/marks in academic subjects and have earned a certificate of completion that enables you to be admitted to a university in your home country and is equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma. If your secondary/high school was completed in a country where English was not the language of instruction, or if you have less than three years of high school curriculum instruction in English in the U.S., you are required to demonstrate English proficiency.
Various examinations and scores may be used to demonstrate proficiency in English: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination: Internet-based test (IBT): score 80 or higher; Score 6.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); Freshman applicants may complete one UC approved English composition course.
