The Graduate Program in Biological Systems Engineering focuses on advancing teaching and research capabilities while preparing the next wave of professionals to tackle issues in sustainable biological material production, management, and utilization. Participants develop expertise in applying engineering principles to optimize the production, distribution, and processing of biological goods—including food, animal feed, and textiles—while safeguarding natural resources, environmental integrity, and public health. UC Davis' College of Engineering provides distinctive opportunities through this program, helping students achieve their highest potential. Our core mission is to expand teaching and research in biological systems engineering while equipping future experts to handle sustainability challenges in biological resource utilization.
Plan II caters to individuals seeking to enhance their qualifications for career advancement or additional professional studies. This pathway is ideal for high-achieving students aiming to accelerate their graduate education timeline. However, since this option doesn't require a research thesis, securing Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) funding is uncommon. Plan II participants may still qualify for select Teaching Assistant roles within or beyond the department.
