The Master of Fine Arts in Design is a two-year interdisciplinary program that combines research and practice with a focus on social and environmental impact. Our graduate students collaborate with distinguished faculty at a leading public research university, benefiting from Teaching Assistant and Graduate Student Researcher positions that often provide full funding. The Design Department's faculty specialize in diverse areas including design theory, exhibition design, fashion, history, information design, interactivity, interior architecture, immersive experiences, lighting, product design, textiles, time-based media, visual communication, and wearable technology. Students are supported in forming cross-disciplinary partnerships with faculty across arts, humanities, social sciences, politics, biological sciences, agriculture, and professional schools like medicine, law, and veterinary sciences.
Graduate studies in fashion open doors to academic careers in research and teaching, as well as corporate roles in product development and design. Through collaboration with experienced scholars, innovative research projects, and interdisciplinary coursework, students develop both theoretical knowledge and practical fashion design skills. Exploring emerging technologies, innovative materials, or sustainable fashion practices can pave the way for unconventional career paths or entrepreneurial opportunities in the industry.
