The Music Department provides a Master of Arts program in conducting, equipping students to lead significant orchestral and choral works throughout their careers. Alongside honing technical abilities, participants explore performance traditions, musical interpretation, and learn to prepare performance scores. MA students must complete at least one academic year on campus (usually two), demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language (commonly German, French, Italian, or Latin), and deliver a public recital with accompanying documentation instead of a thesis. The program typically spans two years. Required coursework includes three music pro-seminars plus a minimum of three seminars and independent studies.
