The MCIP Graduate Group provides an extensive curriculum and exceptional research prospects for students pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, while also collaborating in combined Ph.D./M.D. and Ph.D./D.V.M. programs. With more than 80 faculty members from 25 diverse departments, divisions, and sections—spanning the School of Medicine, School of Veterinary Medicine, College of Biological Sciences, and College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences—the program fosters a multidisciplinary environment. This campuswide collaboration ensures a rich variety of research opportunities, catering to students with wide-ranging interests, including interdisciplinary studies. The program's specialization areas mirror this diversity, covering cellular/molecular physiology, systemic physiology, and focused fields such as cardiovascular physiology, comparative physiology, endocrinology, exercise physiology, neurophysiology, reproductive physiology, and domestic animal physiology.
Housed in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Biophotonics and Bioimaging designated emphasis acts as a central hub for research and education in these fields at UC Davis. It brings together experts from the Davis and Sacramento campuses, including the College of Engineering, School of Medicine, and College of Letters and Science. This program equips students with specialized training in the fundamental principles of light interaction with biological systems—from organisms to molecules—while advancing innovative technologies for scientific and medical applications.
