The BMCDB Graduate Group brings together students and faculty passionate about exploring core biological questions across organismal, cellular, and molecular scales. Investigators employ diverse experimental methods spanning atomic resolution to whole-organism studies in model systems from yeast to mammals. The group's research builds upon foundational expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell/developmental biology while embracing interdisciplinary strategies that integrate biology with genetics, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, and computational methods. Faculty advisors within the BMCDB Graduate Group mentor students through all phases of graduate training, guiding laboratory rotations, major professor selection, course planning, qualifying exam preparation, and annual progress evaluations.
Applicants for admission to BMCDB must meet the University of California minimum GPA requirement for admission (3.0 overall). Other requirements for admission include: Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree: An undergraduate major or master’s degree in biology or chemistry is typical for BMCDB graduate students, but is not required.
