The University of California, Davis provides comprehensive academic programs for Bachelor's (B.S.), Master's (M.S.), and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Atmospheric Science. Our undergraduate program meets the accreditation requirements established by the National Weather Service and the American Meteorological Society. Graduate studies (M.S. and Ph.D.) are administered by the Atmospheric Science Graduate Group, which consists of faculty and students from various departments and colleges, fostering widespread collaboration. Atmospheric science explores the physical, chemical, and dynamic properties of the atmosphere and its interactions with Earth's water systems and living organisms.

The curriculum provides in-depth understanding of air quality, meteorology, atmospheric chemistry, micrometeorology, biometeorology, climate dynamics, mesoscale meteorology, large-scale dynamics, and numerical weather forecasting. Graduates develop both qualitative and quantitative expertise for careers in atmospheric research and education, focusing on atmospheric chemistry, dynamics, and their connections to hydrospheric and biospheric processes. Specializations within our graduate program include: Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Quality, Biometeorology and Micrometeorology, Mesoscale and Boundary-Layer Meteorology, Large-Scale and Climate Dynamics, Computational Geosciences, Extreme Weather, and Climate Change Impacts

The atmospheric boundary layer, extending up to two kilometers during convective conditions, represents the air layer most affected by surface interactions. Research in this area employs observational, theoretical, and computational methods to study air-ground interactions. Mesoscale meteorology expands this investigation to broader horizontal scales, incorporating cloud process modeling as well.
