Managerial economics is an evolving degree program that equips students for diverse professional paths in business and other fields. This major extends past conventional economics and business boundaries. Learners develop a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and real-world business implementations. They build competencies in quantitative techniques, analytical approaches, evaluative reasoning, and persuasive communication that open doors to rewarding careers. Managerial economics students can choose among four concentration areas: Business economics, emphasizing business activity analysis, finance, and management; International business economics, examining economic forces and policy issues in key emerging markets; Environmental and resource economics, addressing environmental sustainability and resource utilization; Agribusiness economics, concentrating on the commercial dimensions of food and fiber production and distribution.
The curriculum starts with foundational coursework in economics, calculus, statistics, accounting, business law, and computer science. All students complete five advanced core classes in intermediate micro- and macro-economics, econometrics, and quantitative methods to establish a robust academic base. An additional 32 units of specialized electives, selected from extensive course options, fulfill the remaining degree requirements. Managerial Economics internships offer valuable professional exposure, insights, and training across various business sectors and government organizations. Additional details are available through the Internship & Career Center. Graduates with this degree pursue successful careers across all business domains, including marketing, analytics, consulting, financial services, accounting, entrepreneurship, real estate, and public sector roles. Numerous alumni continue their education in graduate programs for business administration, accounting, finance, agricultural economics, public policy, and legal studies.
