Students pursuing the Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning (EPAP) major utilize natural science coursework to examine environmental challenges and develop policy alternatives and resolutions. EPAP students explore topics such as resource quality, pollution control, energy consumption, and recreational policy management. The program emphasizes developing expertise in environmental impact evaluation and geographic information systems, both rapidly expanding fields. Curriculum centers on human-environment interactions, incorporating interdisciplinary studies in economics, agricultural economics, political science, and sociology. With a strong emphasis on practical research, the program actively promotes internship opportunities. Seven specialization options are available: city and regional planning, climate change policy, conservation management, energy and transportation planning, environmental policy and politics, integrated policy, and water resource management.

Graduates of the EPAP program qualify for careers in environmental agencies, natural resource organizations, energy and transportation sectors, consulting firms, NGOs, private businesses, or as legislative assistants. The major also serves as ideal preparation for advanced studies in law, urban planning, public policy, political science, economics, or business administration.

The Energy & Transportation Planning specialization offers comprehensive training in energy and transportation policy development, implementation, and assessment. Coursework covers energy systems, natural resource economics, transportation and urban development policies, along with environmental science and sustainability principles.
