If you're passionate about plants, this could be your ideal major. As Earth's primary food source and crucial climate regulators, plants play vital roles in our ecosystem. The plant biology program explores core biological principles while specializing in plant functions and environmental interactions. Students complete foundational biology coursework along with four advanced plant-focused classes covering topics like physiology, structure, and growth. With two elective choices and mandatory lab research, the program offers customization. Since plants serve as key models for molecular genetics, cellular biology, and biochemistry studies, this major pairs well with those disciplines as a minor or second major.
Graduates with a Plant Biology degree unlock diverse career paths across global business, research, education, and management in both public and private organizations. This program provides strong foundations for advanced studies in medicine, legal fields (especially environmental or patent law), or science communication. Plant biologists find opportunities in labs, natural environments, botanical institutions, agribusiness, biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, energy sectors, and environmental conservation roles.
