Physics explores the fundamental principles governing our universe, from its smallest particles to its grandest structures. As a UC Davis physics student, you'll collaborate with faculty on groundbreaking research spanning quantum particles, everyday matter, and cosmic evolution. Our department provides three degree paths: a Bachelor of Arts for broad physics exposure within a liberal arts framework, and two Bachelor of Science options (Physics with Astrophysics emphasis, and Applied Physics) for professional preparation. These rigorous programs equip students for diverse technical careers or advanced study in physics-related fields.
The B.S. programs particularly benefit those pursuing professional physics careers or graduate studies, while the Applied Physics specialization offers practical advantages for immediate workforce entry. Physics graduates find opportunities in research (academic, governmental, industrial), education (secondary through university levels), technical management, and industrial production/sales. The major also serves as excellent preparation for interdisciplinary graduate work in areas like biophysics, environmental science, astronomy, and materials engineering.
Freshman applicant will be completing or have completed secondary school and have not enrolled at any college or university.
