Students pursuing a degree in evolution, ecology, and biodiversity will develop comprehensive expertise in these fields and beyond. The EEB major curriculum is structured to provide students with well-rounded foundational knowledge across biological sciences. The academic journey starts with introductory coursework in biology, mathematics, and physical sciences, followed by specialized classes in evolution, ecology, and biodiversity. While adhering to major requirements, students enjoy flexibility to tailor their studies to individual interests. As part of this intimate program, you'll engage closely with faculty through specialized courses—from field experiments and marine biology at Bodega Marine Laboratory to animal behavior, microbial genetics, computational biology, and more. Additionally, students can pursue independent research projects guided by faculty and graduate mentors from the Department of Evolution and Ecology or other departments.
Graduates with an Evolution, Ecology & Biodiversity degree are equipped for diverse careers in research, education, healthcare, veterinary science, agriculture, environmental conservation, and industry. Many undergraduates gain valuable research experience at UC Davis before advancing to graduate studies. This pathway opens doors to professional opportunities in academia, government agencies, environmental nonprofits, and corporate sectors.
