Communication methods, both verbal and nonverbal, differ across cultures and generations. How can you effectively convey and interpret messages in today's rapidly changing, culturally diverse society? As a UC Davis communication student, you'll explore communication dynamics at personal, interpersonal, organizational, and societal scales. The curriculum examines messaging systems, media influence, and the impact of public awareness initiatives, with particular emphasis on digital media research and overcoming intercultural communication barriers. Because communication plays a vital role in social interactions, your studies will commence with foundational courses in social sciences like anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Advanced coursework concentrates on communication theories, specialized processes, and mass media's function and consequences. Communication majors can pursue dynamic internships in broadcasting, print media, health promotion, advertising, or public relations.
Graduates enter diverse professions including journalism, administration, sales, management, government, education, social services, digital media, and public relations. A communication degree also provides strong preparation for legal studies or advanced academic programs.
Freshman applicant will be completing or have completed secondary school and have not enrolled at any college or university.
