The Department of Nuclear Engineering provides three advanced degree options: the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Engineering (MEng), and a combined Public Policy (MPP) with Nuclear Engineering (MS) program. Our graduate curriculum prepares students to become pioneering researchers and engineers who will drive nuclear technology advancements in future generations. Alumni enter careers across national laboratories, government agencies, and diverse industries. Many hold positions at premier research institutions like Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories, among others. Graduates also pursue opportunities at leading firms including EPRI, Intel, SpaceX, Exponent, or launch their own ventures.
The minimum graduate admissions requirements are:
three letters of recommendation
statement of purpose
personal statement
writing sample (ca. 10-15pp. double-spaced)
Greek and Latin reading lists. Please list works read in Greek and Latin (not in translation), specifying which sections you have read or roughly how much of the work you have read, e.g., Aeneid 1 and 4, Sophocles OT (entire); Greek lyric (selections in Campbell).
TOEFL at least 90 for the Internet-based test (IBT), Overall Band score must be at least 7 on a 9-point scale for IELTS
