The field of infectious disease research examines how pathogens, their hosts, and environmental factors interact to cause human illness. The Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology program takes a multidisciplinary approach with significant focus on public and global health. Coursework highlights the biological and molecular aspects of host-pathogen relationships, how immune responses can either protect against or contribute to disease, the ecology and evolutionary patterns of microbes, disease transmission dynamics, laboratory surveillance techniques, and the epidemiological study of infectious diseases.
