UC Berkeley's School of Journalism seeks emerging leaders to shape the future of journalism—passionate individuals dedicated to truth, driven by curiosity, committed to in-depth analysis, and actively engaged in civic life. The digital revolution has intensified global demand for news as audiences increasingly seek to understand and connect with world events. Now more than ever, society needs skilled professionals devoted to accurate, compelling reporting. Our program prepares you not merely for a career, but for meaningful impact. The intensive two-year Master of Journalism (MJ) program equips you with essential twenty-first-century skills: narrative writing, audio production, photography, video journalism, multimedia storytelling, data analysis, and investigative reporting. By graduation, you'll build an impressive portfolio of published work, guided by our faculty of accomplished journalists. You'll also gain access to our global network of media professionals—including many alumni—who recognize the value of a Berkeley journalism degree. Dual degree options in Asian Studies and Public Health are offered, enabling students to earn two Master's degrees concurrently, typically shortening the total study time by two semesters.
