The Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics provides PhD degree programs. Because of enrollment restrictions, master's degree admissions are uncommon, though the MS may be granted to PhD candidates in our program (or another Berkeley discipline) after meeting the necessary requirements.
While the Agricultural and Resource Economics Program maintains some flexibility, it emphasizes economic theory, quantitative approaches, and two specialized areas chosen with guidance from the graduate advisor. Popular specialization areas encompass development economics, environmental/natural resource economics, agricultural policy, and international trade markets.
An applicant should hold a degree comparable to a Bachelor's degree at the University of California and must have demonstrated strong scholarship potential. The degree need not be in agricultural or resource economics.
International students are required to show competency in English, with a minimum TOEFL score of 90 for the internet-based test, 230 in the computer-based test, or 570 for the paper test.
