It is not suitable for those committed to pursuing a PhD right after graduation, who should instead apply to PhD programs like Berkeley's during their senior year. Students enrolled in the five-year BAMS or BSMS can later opt to switch to a PhD program here or at another institution, though admission remains competitive with all PhD applicants. The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary graduate-level training, requiring a minimum of 8 units of coursework outside EECS. Graduates will become leaders in their technical and professional domains. The five-year BS/MS program extends the standard four-year undergraduate experience with an additional year of graduate studies, equipping students for engineering or management roles in business, government, or industry.
