Social and environmental challenges are fundamentally connected. This program equips students with key methodologies and theoretical frameworks from environmental social sciences, demonstrating how social science techniques address ecological issues and how these theories enhance our comprehension of environmental concerns. Advanced coursework focuses on three primary specialization tracks. Students explore all three before selecting a concentration: US Environmental Policy and Management, Global Environmental Politics, or Justice and Sustainability.
Graduates of the Society and Environment program gain strong career foundations in environmental consulting, education, healthcare, legal fields, urban/regional planning, and other environmental sectors across government agencies, nonprofit conservation groups, and corporate settings. The program also provides excellent preparation for various graduate studies, including legal education.
