The Five-Year BachelorMaster Program, known as the 5th Year MS Program, provides eligible Berkeley EECS and L&S Computer Science undergraduates with a special chance to start graduate studies right after completing their bachelor's degree, making it possible to earn a master's in just one extra year. This is not a combined degree program; students receive their bachelor's degree first, followed by the master's. With strategic planning during their undergraduate studies, driven students can initiate a research project and fulfill some master's course requirements while still undergraduates. Depending on their pace, the additional graduate year might occur before the fifth year at Berkeley. The fifth-year program is not designed for those aiming for a PhD.
The Fifth Year MS program emphasizes interdisciplinary graduate-level education, requiring at least eight units of coursework outside EECS. Graduates will become leaders in their technical and professional areas.
The program concentrates on interdisciplinary learning and gaining further experience in related technical fields like physics, materials science, statistics, biology, etc., and/or professional areas such as technology management, business, law, and public policy.
Upon admission, students must start the graduate portion in the semester right after earning their bachelor's degree.
Only one additional year (two semesters) is allowed beyond the bachelor's degree.
This opportunity is exclusively for Berkeley EECS and L&S CS undergraduates.
Program participants may work as Graduate Student Instructors with approval from their faculty research advisor and the 5th Year MS Committee.
Those in the program should expect to finance their own education.
To be considered for admission to UC Berkeley, international applicants must:
finish secondary school and

The university requires further study, either completion of the two-year A-level program with a minimum of three academic exams, the IB diploma program, or another similar academic curriculum.
