Our Theater and Performance Studies program approaches performance as both an analytical research method and a creative outlet for public discourse. The department's theatrical productions serve as immersive platforms where students explore performance through physical, intellectual, and artistic dimensions. We aim to cultivate not just skilled performers, but well-rounded artists, critical thinkers, creators, audience members, scholars, and active contributors to the artistic process.
The program emphasizes hands-on experience in all aspects of theatrical production. Catering to both beginners and experienced practitioners, we provide comprehensive training across disciplines. Students can specialize in acting, dance, technical theater/design, performance studies, or blend these areas. We equally value the academic study of performance theory, historical context, cultural significance, and dramatic literature, ensuring a balance between practice and scholarship. Advanced coursework includes stage management, playwriting, directing, choreography, and various design disciplines, complemented by numerous performance opportunities.
Our curriculum is designed for students seeking multifaceted perspectives on theater and performance. Whether pursuing a major or minor, you'll learn from distinguished faculty recognized for both academic research and creative achievements. Graduates have launched successful careers across the theater industry worldwide, with alumni working as professional performers, directors, playwrights, producers, arts critics, and specialists in various technical fields.
