The Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies program provides an interdisciplinary academic curriculum that explores the historical and modern experiences of Mexican-origin communities within U.S. society and institutions. Additionally, given ongoing migration from Mexico and Central America, the curriculum incorporates examination of relevant Mexican historical, cultural, and political dimensions as they relate to Chicano communities throughout time. The program prioritizes helping students develop comprehensive knowledge about the Chicano experience. Consequently, it emphasizes analyzing connections between historical contexts, cultural traditions, and artistic manifestations within Chicano communities to foster a nuanced understanding of their current relationship with American society. Accordingly, the program integrates multiple academic disciplines including political science, sociology, anthropology, history, literary analysis, and art. This interdisciplinary approach prepares students for professional careers as well as advanced graduate studies or specialized training across diverse fields.
