The Art History Major offers students comprehensive training in artistic traditions, practices, and cultural contexts that shape both historical and modern visual culture. The program also explores the field's development, methodologies, and key discussions. Students gain skills in conducting independent research, assessing evidence, constructing well-reasoned arguments, and refining academic writing abilities. Through a structured progression of courses—from introductory to advanced levels, including seminars and honors work—the curriculum teaches analytical techniques for examining visual, material, and textual sources within their cultural and historical frameworks. The requirements ensure broad exposure to diverse eras, regions, and themes while providing opportunities for specialized study through elective Focus areas.
