The School Counseling EdM program aims to train professionals who will apply their acquired expertise, competencies, and understanding to support students in academic environments. These professionals help young people address both developmental challenges and remedial needs across educational, career, and personal-social domains. Program graduates will demonstrate proficiency in employing varied intervention methods, designing and executing comprehensive school counseling initiatives, and assessing their effectiveness. Upon completion, graduates fulfill the academic prerequisites for initial certification through New York State Education Department's Bureau of Certification.

Qualification Requirements

You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.


You will be asked on the application to write two 150-word statements on your experience working with children and adolescents, and with diverse populations.

  • Statement of education and career goals:¬†In 750-1200 words, write a statement that clearly explains why you would like to be a school counselor and what led you to this career path. How will attending UB help you to achieve your current and future educational and career goals.
