Exercise science examines the impact of physical activity on health, fitness, performance, and disease prevention through scientific research. Nutrition science investigates how dietary components interact with the body to affect wellbeing. Our department integrates these fields to provide comprehensive knowledge about human physiology, biomechanics, and nutritional influences. The ENS department provides two bachelor's degree options: a BS in Exercise Science and a BS in Nutrition Science. These programs benefit from their placement within UB's School of Public Health and Health Professions, where undergraduates study in an interdisciplinary setting aimed at enhancing individual and community health. Exercise Science BS students can specialize in one of these tracks: Applied Exercise Physiology, Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Health Professions, or Pre-Physical Therapy. Concentration details are available on the program website. The curriculum equips exercise science majors with robust health science fundamentals, covering chemistry, physics, anatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, and nutrition through challenging academic coursework.
