Sociologists study how belonging to various groups and engaging with social systems and institutions influences individuals' everyday experiences. The Department of Sociology and Criminology educates undergraduates to evaluate diverse societal topics, such as family dynamics, gender roles, racial relations, economic class, legal systems, public policies, criminal behavior, healthcare, and ecological concerns. Students majoring in Sociology develop expertise in technical analysis, critical evaluation, and international viewpoints essential for thriving in today's fast-changing world, equipping them for careers across multiple fields like teaching, healthcare, corporate sectors, legal practice, city development, policy-making, and community support.
Have earned the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma.  If you have already completed secondary school, you need to submit both academic transcripts and proof of graduation with your application documents. 
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.000, both overall and at the University at Buffalo
