The University of Arizona's two-year Master of Science in Urban Planning equips you for a rewarding career designing sustainable futures for communities both near and far. At CAPLA, we're transforming urban planning education, research and practice through innovative approaches—with our diverse student body driving our acclaimed and dynamic initiatives.
Our adaptable, cross-disciplinary program lets students focus on two specialized areas from four options while building core knowledge in planning principles. MS Urban Planning candidates select nine primary concentration credits and six secondary concentration credits across two focus fields. This concentration system fosters deeper interaction with expert faculty while enabling thorough examination of subject matter, techniques and real-world applications tailored to career goals. Most full-time students finish the program within 24 months.
Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited United States college or university, or equivalent in a non-US institution of higher learning. The undergraduate degree can be in any field of study. A cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in the last 90 graded quarter credit hours or last 60 graded semester credit hours is required.
Applicants who do not meet the required 3.0 GPA can apply as Graduate Non-Degree Seeking. After completion of 12 consecutive semester units of 500 level courses, and a 3.0 GPA or higher, applicants can apply as graduate degree seeking using their graduate GPA.
We recommend international applicants to submit at least 4-5 months prior to the start of the term.
Applications are considered for admission on a rolling basis. We will continue to review completed applications for terms even after the Preferred Selection deadline has passed. NOTE: International applicants may still be reviewed for admissions, but may not receive Immigration documentation in time to complete travel requirements.
