The Chemistry Department accepts a select group of students for its Master of Science programs. Generally, these degree candidates do not receive financial assistance. Prospective applicants should reach out to the Graduate Coordinator. Earning an MS involves completing original research and submitting a thesis, along with successfully defending it in a final oral exam.
The MS program emphasizes research culminating in a thesis, with all candidates required to pass a comprehensive oral defense.
As an interdisciplinary unit spanning the College of Science and College of Medicine, we train students across diverse fields. In today's academic landscape where disciplinary lines are blurring - as reflected in our University's Strategic Plan - our educational initiatives, research projects, and community engagement uniquely prepare us to address society's most pressing issues.
Our cutting-edge research explores critical questions in chemical and biochemical sciences, drawing from multiple fields including energy systems, materials science, optics, physics, computational methods, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical development, and molecular biology. These research endeavors directly inform our academic programs: CBC provides comprehensive chemistry and biochemistry education at all levels, from bachelor's degrees through doctoral studies.
