The Master of Public Policy (MPP) is a specialized graduate program designed to equip students with advanced analytical capabilities for tackling critical regional policy challenges, including border security, environmental conservation, and natural resource management. With its regional policy focus, the curriculum trains future leaders in impactful policy evaluation that shapes communities and states.
This MPP degree opens doors to diverse public sector careers across government levels (federal, state, local), nonprofit organizations, and private consulting firms as policy researchers and analysts. The curriculum emphasizes policy evaluation, formulation, and problem-solving through both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. At the University of Arizona, the MPP provides graduates with enhanced policy comprehension for advancing in public or private sector roles, while its rigorous academics also serve as strong preparation for doctoral studies.
Our program's core purpose is to train a diverse cohort of graduate students—including working professionals and aspiring public servants—for effective leadership in government and nonprofit sectors. We develop critical competencies in analysis, communication, and administration while instilling public service values like ethical conduct, civic responsibility, and social equity. Our faculty advance policy knowledge through engaged teaching, research, and community service.
The 42-credit MPP program spans two years with three key components: 24 core credits, 15 elective credits, and a 3-credit capstone project. Program advisors collaborate with students to select electives that align with their specific policy interests and career goals.
